Guest House
Built in 1859, the Bentley-Wheeler Guest House was the childhood home of Percy Bentley; well known architect in the La Crosse area. While he didn't study under Frank Lloyd Wright directly, he worked in close proximity to him as a student, thus influencing his work in the Prairie Style.
As construction of the larger house began in 1883, Percy and his family lived in, what we now refer to as the Guest House, as they waited for their new home to be finished. After several years of construction, the Bentley family sold the property to J.E. Wheeler (prominent banker and owner of Novelty Woodworks) who completed the project. Wheeler's family also lived in the Guest House as construction was completed.
The Guest House is complete with 4 (four) bedrooms (1 king, 2 queen and 1 full size bed), living room with a fireplace, large dining room, full kitchen, 2 bathrooms (one with a jacuzzi and walk-in shower - the other bathroom has a clawfoot tub/shower) and even laundry facilities. The guest house can serve long or short term needs. Whether you have two people in your party, or eight...you have the entire guest house to yourself; we do not add other groups to the guest house beyond the original booking.
Guests can look forward to a breakfast amenity basket, which includes fresh scones and/or muffins, yogurt, cereal, milk, juice and fresh fruit (we do not offer a group/community breakfast). Additionally, guest services include free wireless, high speed internet access, cable television, ironing board and iron, and laundry facilities. The Bentley-Wheeler Guest House is fully air conditioned.
$200.00 per night (for 2 people using 1 bedroom), $35.00 additional for each person after that. Prices subject to change based on peak/high demand occasions (i.e., Oktoberfest, WIAA State Track Meet, Riverfest, etc).
